What You MIGHT NOT Know About Facebook

Again, another article of mine was published. (Hooray!!) But this time, it was not made not only by me, but also with my dearest girlfriend Alyssa Reyes. So, here it is. Enjoy Reading!

Facebook – as we all know – is now one of the most famous social networking sites in the internet. According to the grapevine, this is one place in cyberspace where we can find our good ole’ friends and relatives to keep in touch with them and even meet and befriend some perfect strangers by simply hitting that “add as friend” and “like” button, leaving some affable comments and all that. Not to mention that the site itself really made an impact to the society. But despite of the many applications that are attached to the aforementioned site, have you ever wondered if you have tried all of it?—okay, ALL is an overstatement. Let’s just say: the need-to-know and the not-so-basic-but-oh-so-useful apps? Here are some interesting facts that you may want to know (or maybe you already know) regarding some of the features and applications in Facebook that you possibly will want to explore but doesn’t have an idea how:

Want to delete your account? It is NOT that EASY!

Did it ever come into your mind of deleting your account and then when you did it, instead of doing so, you figured out that you had just deactivated it there isn’t really a DELETE ACCOUNT button? However, deactivating it still stores ALL your profile information. So, how are you going to erase your ENTIRE connection with Facebook? Well, rubbing it out is not a piece of cake. Ergo, we conduct an action research just for you!

The following are the steps on how you could get rid of it:
1. Use this link to delete your Facebook account: https://ssl.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account
2. Click Submit.
3. Enter your password and fill out the text box.
4. Press Okay.

Avoid the Infamous Photo/Video Tag Mistake

The taggers: Tag. Tag. Tag. Tag. Tag. Whether it’s you looking like a rock star or the dizzy you puking your guts out at the sickening public toilet, they don’t care. Really. It’s just that all the faces on the pictures should be named—no matter what. Then you were like “Does anybody here know the word PRIVACY?”

Well, how can you explain a “group study” with the faint light flickering and dancing people on the background, with messy table full of canned beer and bowls of finger food which hides your “notes” and you grinning like a complete idiot?

Are you one of those people who often encounter this kind of trouble? Well, this might even be too old for most of you because this is one of the classic problems one faces on Facebook. Picture this: You are away from the keyboard for a while and then suddenly, you see something like “A-guy-you-did-not-even-know tagged a photo of you.” And the result? Disturbing. Distressing. Or even DEMORALIZING. What if you are in an internship with one of those well-known and respected companies here in the Philippines, with a chance of being absorbed by the company because of your high-quality performance and the good rapport you have with your colleagues. And then, your boss will see that you look like a total moron showing up and also in your friend’s news feeds. Some have been fired from work after incriminating photos/videos were posted for the boss to see. For others, randomly tagged photos/videos have ended relationships.

So how do you avoid the notorious tagged photo or video from showing up in all of your friends’ news feeds? It’s pretty simple. First visit your profile privacy page (http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=profile) and modify the setting next to “Photos Tagged of You”. Select the option which says “Customize” and a box like the one pictured below will pop up.

Getting Out of Google's Radar

Facebook gets A TON of traffic from displaying user profiles in search engines. Not all of your profile is displayed though. Currently the information displayed in the search profile is limited to: your profile picture, a list of your friends, a link to add you as a friend, a link to send you a message, and a list of up to approximately 20 fan pages that you are a member of.

For some people, being displayed in the search engines is a great way to let people get in contact with you, especially if you don’t have an existing website. Facebook also tends to rank high in the search results, so if you want to be easy to find, making your search profile can be a great idea. Many people don’t want any of their information to be public though.

By visiting the same search privacy settings page listed in the previous step, you can control the visibility of your public search listing which is visible to Google and other search engines. You can turn off your public search listing by simply unchecking the box next to the phrase “Create a public search listing for me and submit it for search engine indexing” as pictured in the image below.

My First Blog (Friendster edition!)

I was browsing my friendster account just to see my old photos and testimonials. Then, I saw my blog there. I realize that this is not my first time in blogging after all. So here it is!

It was such a lovely day when we went to our classroom maybe because we have seen each other again. The chairs were arrange properly, no trashes in the area and a room that is very cold. When Ma’am Lilia came into our classroom, we are all quiet like an angel (at least we are not that naughty). Good thing I have worn my jacket so that I will not chill that much. While the discussion is going on, I saw Jeremy came in into our classroom. Too bad she is not my seatmate at that time because she sat at the back but I still manage to wave at her and she smiled.

I am very interested in our topic that day. It is all about goal setting, which is very important in our lives. What I have learned in my professor is that it is a personal planning wherein you have to decide what you want to achieve and do it step-by-step towards the achievement of these goals. Most of the people who uses this technique becomes successful.

I, myself, also make a goal so that I may be able to go to the right path. One of the goals that I have accomplished is to have a scholarship which I am really proud of. I know that I am just average when it comes to academics but I did not lose hope. I exert more effort and strive hard so that I may be able to achieve that. And also with the help of other people that inspires me specially Tito Henry and Uncle Nany (which I will tell my story with him in my next blog).

Actually, every person can do this. They just have to persevere and be responsible. IT is not an excuse if you say that the government corrupts, or we don’t have a chance to live a better life again. You should not always depend on them! Because you (yes, YOU!) can do it by yourselves, you just have to believe in yourself. And always remember to put God in everything that you will do for He will guide you and give you more blessings. And after that, you will receive that GOLD and that is SUCCESS. I hope this lesson will be kept for those who have read this or should I say EVERYBODY. Take care and God bless!

Be good! ^^

Crysis Warhead -- WAY TOO EASY

I was playing Crysis at that time and then finished it around 12am, I think. Then I said, "I should install its sequel so that I get to play it when I wake up later." So I just surfed the net while I wait for the game to be installed.

After that, when I woke up, I immediately turned on the PC to play. So there was I, the usual choose-your-difficulty page. Of course, I will choose the Normal difficulty but I get intrigued when I see the limitations depending on what you will choose. When I choose the Delta (Super Hard?), it says that the enemies speak Korean (obviously, they are Koreans). On the other hand, the rest of it states that the enemies speak English. Challenged because of the "speak Korean", I clicked it.

Yes, they really speak Korean and I feel challenged because I really can't understand them. And that's it. The gameplay? TOO EASY! I am not here to impress myself but as a gamer, you can really distinguish the difference between "Easy" and "Hard."

Or maybe, because the weapons used in the Crysis Warhead is too powerful comparing to its previous game. So I just look at the bright side. The game is good. The music is great especially when you are in an assault and then you get to hear the awesome rock music. EPIC, I should say. The blood also made an impact in the game since I get to play the first without blood and looks boring. Wait. I almost made a game review. LOL. Oh well, if I'm going to rate this game. I will give it a ★★★★.

Scared much, mate?
